Mandatory & Optional Fees

I have both "mandatory" and "optional" fees showing on my invoice.  What is the difference?

If you have mandatory fees showing on your invoice they must be paid to the University by the due date.

If you have optional fees showing, you are not required to pay them upfront. If you choose not to pay these fees to the University by the due date they will be reported to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as a HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP debt.
