What key dates are listed for subjects in the Handbook, and what do they mean?
Below are the definitions for the key dates listed under 'Dates and times' for each subject entry in the Handbook:
Term | Definition |
Pre-teaching period start date | Some subjects have a period before teaching begins, when you are expected to complete specified readings and/or other preparation. You must be enrolled in the subject during this period. |
Teaching period start date | Classes will start on or after this date. Please refer to the subject timetable for specific class activity dates. |
Teaching period end date | The end of the formal period of teaching. Please refer to the subject timetable for specific class activity dates. |
Assessment period end date | All assessment should be completed on or before this date. This may be the due date of the final piece of assessment, the last date on which an assessed task or examination occurs, or the end of a standard examination period during which the final piece of assessment is due or examination occurs. Extensions and special or supplementary exams may take place after this date. |
Last date to self enrol | The last date you can enrol online through my.unimelb. In exceptional circumstances, you may be permitted to enrol after this date. Use the Enrolment Assistance Form to request enrolment after this date. You will be required to attach a copy of written approval from the Subject Coordinator. |
Census date | This is the last day to withdraw from a subject, apply for leave of absence or course withdrawal, without financial liability. Withdrawing after the census date will mean a WD grade is recorded on your Student Record and will appear on statements such as your Academic Transcript. You cannot re-enrol (either by yourself or via an Enrolment Assistance Form) once the census date has passed. |
Last date to withdraw without fail | Withdrawing after the census date will mean a WD grade is recorded on the academic transcript. Withdrawing after the last date to withdraw means a fail grade is recorded on the academic transcript. |
