Password and Username

How do I reset my password or confirm my username for my.unimelb and my University email?

If you need to reset your password while you are studying at the University, you can do so by following these steps.

  1. Go to sso.unimelb.edu.au and click on ‘Forgot Password?’
  2. Type your username and click Next.
  3. You can now use a Multi-factor Authentication tool (such as Okta Verify or Google Authenticator) to reset your password.

If you don’t know your username, contact Student IT for assistance. New students will find their username in the Welcome email, sent to their personal address.

As a new student, if you still need to create your account, click Create Account

To ensure that your University account remains secure, you will need to provide the following details as they appear in your application:

  • Full name
  • Student ID
  • Date of birth
  • Postcode (of your ‘preferred address’)-

Once you have entered the details above, you will be sent a verification email to your personal email address. Click on the unique link in this email to complete your account set-up.

A username is different to an email alias; the username does not contain a full stop. For example, "j.bloggs" would be a student's email alias, not the username.

Please note, your username cannot be changed.

If you encounter any problems, please contact Student IT for assistance.
