What are my student contribution payment options?
Students in Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) have three options for paying their student contributions.
Full deferred
Eligible students (Australian citizens, permanent humanitarian visa holders, and some New Zealand citizens who meet the government criteria) can choose to not make any up-front payment by deferring their student contribution and making repayments through the taxation system. If you are eligible and wish to defer all of your student contribution amounts using HECS-HELP, you must provide your tax file number on your 'Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP' form.
If you have not provided your tax file number on your 'Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP' form, you must make full up-front payment by the payment due date for each subject or your enrolment will be cancelled.
Full up-front payment
If you are eligible to defer your student contribution amount using HECS-HELP and have provided your tax file number on your 'Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP' form, but wish to pay your student contribution amount upfront in full, you must make full up-front payment by the census date for each subject or your student contribution amount will be deferred to HECS-HELP.
If you are an Australian permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen who does not meet the government criteria, you are not eligible to defer your student contribution amount and must make full up-front payment by the payment due date for each subject or your enrolment will be cancelled.
Partial up-front payment
If you are eligible to defer your student contribution amount using HECS-HELP but wish to pay part of your student contribution, you must provide your tax file number on your 'Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP' form.
If you do not pay your full student contribution by the subject census date, any unpaid amount will be deferred to HECS-HELP.
If you are an Australian permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen who does not meet the government criteria, you are not eligible to make a partial up-front payment and to defer your remaining student contribution amount. You must make full up-front payment by the payment due date for each subject or your enrolment will be cancelled.
