Add Email Alias

How do I add an email alias to my student Microsoft Outlook account?

You can use your alias instead of your primary email address, to keep your username private, or if you have changed your name and have been given a new alias.

You can use your email alias instead of your primary email address at any time. You may choose to use your alias email address if:

  • You want to keep your username private
  • You prefer the alias as the email address for others to see
  • You have changed your name and have been provided a new alias.

Adding your alias

Please note, when adding your alias address to your Outlook account, only the emails you send will be affected as they will come from your alias email address. Emails sent to either of the two email addresses (alias or primary) will appear in the single account inbox.
  1. Go to Outlook and Sign In to your account.
  2. Click the gear icon on the top right of your screen to show Settings.
  3. Click Mail on the left side of your screen.
  4. Select Compose and reply.
  5. Under Addresses to send from, select the alias you would like to send emails from.
  6. Click Save at the bottom of the screen.

You can then choose for emails sent to your Outlook alias to go to a new folder or an existing one. This is a great idea for managing your emails and decluttering your mailbox.

Changing the 'from' address when composing an email

  1. Click the "New Email" button to start a new email or click the "Reply" link under an email you have received to reply to it.
  2. Click on the email address beside "From".
  3. Select either your primary email address or your alias.

Receiving mail to my alias

All emails sent to your alias email address will automatically appear in your inbox. However, you must use your primary email address to sign in to your email account and to access your inbox.
