Research Style Guides

Where do I get research style guides and advice on presentation, referencing and citation?

The University doesn't produce any generic guides applicable to all students because presentation, referencing and citation conventions differ so greatly between disciplines. You should discuss the expectations in your discipline with your supervisor(s). Your Graduate Research Coordinator may also be aware of relevant publications which may be of help.

• The University Library collection contains a variety of publications on the writing of theses, style guides and manuals.
• Re:Cite - the Library's online referencing tool shows commonly used styles and examples of how different reference types are cited: APA, Harvard, Chicago, MLA, and Vancouver.
• The Writing Centre in the School of Graduate Research can assist you to develop your skills in scholarly writing for a public audience. The Writing Centre also runs workshops (both introductory and advanced) where industry professionals will advise you on how to communicate your research to a wider, more general public audience. 
• Academic Skills also provides advice to graduate researchers on academic writing.
