SSAF Eligibility Queries

I have doubts over whether I should be charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) - why am I being invoiced?

Generally all students who are enrolled in 12.5 points (0.125 EFTSL) study load or greater across the calendar year pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).

Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and Research Training students are invoiced by the University for the fee, and fee-paying students pay the fee as part of their course fee.

I am a current scholarship holder (e.g. Australian Postgraduate Award)

Scholarships, whether for tuition fees or stipends, do not cover the SSAF. If the SSAF appears on your Statement of Liability, you are required to pay it.

Eligible students may defer payment through SA-HELP. Those students in financial need who are not eligible to defer payment through SA-HELP may wish to seek assistance to make the payment through Student Financial Aid.

Most of my study is not located on the Parkville Campus

SSAF is charged on the basis of your study load, not the primary location of your studies. This is because the funds generated by charging SSAF will be used for the improvement of student services provided to all students. The University has committed some of the SSAF funding to improving services for those studying at locations other than the Parkville campus. In consultation with staff and students in the faculties of MDHS, VCA & MCM, Land and Environment and Veterinary Science, the University and the Student Union are developing a range of initiatives using SSAF funds specifically to improve services and address gaps in service delivery for students not based at the Parkville campus.

I am on Leave of Absence, or have withdrawn from my course

You have been charged the SSAF on the basis of your study load for the whole calendar year.

All students enrolled for any part of the calendar year are liable for the SSAF. The University understands that some of the students charged for the SSAF will currently be on leave from their course, however the amount you have been charged takes account of whether you are enrolled part time or full time for the whole calendar year, irrespective of whether you are currently on leave. If your enrolment changes, your SSAF charge will be re-calculated accordingly.

Students who withdraw from their course, or from some or all subjects after the census dates for those subjects, will have accrued study load and are therefore still required to pay the SSAF. If you withdraw from subjects prior to the census date, your SSAF charge will be re-calculated accordingly.

I am completing my course mid-year

The SSAF is charged on the basis of your study load spread across the whole calendar year. The amount you have been charged takes into account whether you have been enrolled part-time or full-time for the whole calendar year. If your study load before completing is equal to or greater than 12.5% (12.5 credit points), you will be liable for the SSAF.

Please refer to your invoice for further detail about how to pay or defer payment of the SSAF. If you feel you’ve been charged the SSAF in error, please contact Stop 1.
