Core Subjects

What is a core subject?

A core subject is compulsory, and must be completed in order to meet the requirements of your course. You cannot substitute a core subject with an alternative unless otherwise approved. Please refer to your Study Plan via my.unimelb to determine if a subject is 'core' or 'optional':

  • Core subjects are indicated by a red 'C'
  • Optional subjects are indicated by a blue 'O'.

Check the subject list for your course in the University Handbook for more detailed information about core subjects, including teaching dates and subject prerequisites.
