What is an elective / optional subject?
An elective subject (also referred to as an 'optional subject') is not compulsory (unlike core subjects). You have a choice as to which elective subjects you can study.
If your course requires you to choose electives, a list of options will be available in your Study Plan.
Refer to your Study Plan via my.unimelb to determine if a subject is 'core' or 'optional':
- Elective/Optional subjects are indicated by a blue O
- Core subjects are indicated by a red C
Please note: Not all elective/optional subjects are offered in a given study period.
Check your course's 'course structure' in the University Handbook for more detailed information about elective subjects, including availability and requisites.
