Student email on mobile/portable devices

How do I set up my student email on my mobile phone, tablet, or laptop?

It is possible to set up your University email on most email programs, including Microsoft Outlook, the Mail app for Mac, iPhone and iPad, and the email app for Android devices. However, student email works best using the official Gmail app available on Android and iOS.

This Google support document provides instructions to enable IMAP and set up your account in your email client. Exact procedures will vary depending on the email client. For more information, visit the Google Apps page or contact Student IT.

I'm having problems setting up my email

If you receive an authentication error while setting up your email, ensure that in the 'Username' field, you have entered (username)@student.unimelb.edu.au, and not only your username.

For some email clients, you may need to allow 'less secure apps' to access your account. You can find out more and change your settings at this Google support document.

You may also need to reset your password if your client is not allowing you to sign in.

If you are still unable to access your emails, you can find more information at this Student IT help page, or get help by contacting Student IT.
