Scholarships - Centrelink

Is my scholarship considered exempt income for Centrelink purposes?

Most scholarships provided by the University of Melbourne are equity and/or merit based scholarships. Combined scholarship payments up to $7,826 per annum (2017 threshold) are exempt from the Centrelink income test. Any scholarship amounts over the threshold may affect your Centrelink payment rate.

Commonwealth scholarships or scholarships that provide a tuition fee remission or exemption are not considered income for Centrelink purposes.

For further information, please refer to the Department of Human Services website.

If you have applied for or are in receipt of Centrelink benefits, you are obliged to notify Centrelink when you are in receipt of a scholarship.
