How do I pay my deposit or Overseas Student Health Cover?

(OSHC - International students only)

To pay your deposit and/or your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) please refer to your offer letter.

The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), a premier global bank, has developed a secure online portal for future and current international students to pay tuition fees in their home currency from accounts outside of Australia at any time.

Competitive FX exchange rate applies and will depend upon the payment method and the currency used.

Instructions for payment options including credit card, debit card, telegraphic transfer, Direct Debit (USA and Canada), and more, are available at CIBC payment portal.

Exchanges rates for Telegraphic Transfers are locked in for 72 hours.

A non-refundable surcharge of 2.50% applies for all VISA and MasterCard payments.

The University of Melbourne does NOT accept payment using prepaid gift cards and/or other prepaid debit/credit cards. If we suspect a prepaid card is used for payment, UoM reserves the right to reverse the transaction to the same card and payment will need to be made using an approved payment method. Refund will only be paid back to the same credit card used for payment.A non-refundable surcharge fee applies for all Visa and MasterCard payments.

The surcharge fee is an unavoidable cost that will be passed onto the cardholder, and will be clearly displayed when you process your payment.

For Australian issued cards, the surcharges are:

  • Visa - Credit Card: 0.68%
  • Visa - Debit Card: 0.31%
  • Mastercard - Credit: 0.87%
  • Mastercard - Debit: 0.32%

For cards issued overseas, the surcharges are:

  • Visa - Credit Card: 3.14%
  • Visa - Debit Card: 1.39%
  • Mastercard - Credit: 2.55%
  • Mastercard - Debit: 0.71%
Telegraphic Transfer (overseas payments only)

Present the payment details (provided below) and the Commonwealth Bank TT Letter to your bank to have them process the payment. Note that the field information is for bank use only.

This is an electronic means of transferring funds from overseas to the University's Australian Bank Account.

The Account Number is unique to each student.
DO NOT pay multiple student payments to a single BSB/Account Number.

Receipt of payment

Payments made will take the following days to be received by the University and credited to your student account:

  • BPAY: 1 - 2 business days
  • Credit cards: 1 - 2 business days
  • Telegraphic/wire transfer: Up to 7 business days

If your telegraphic/wire transfer has not been received after 7 business days, please forward a copy of the transaction receipt to the University by email.
